AFRH-W VETERAN HONOREE

George Brewer was the youngest child in his family and after graduating from high school at 16 he decided that he wanted to leave Alabama and see the world. So he decided to join the US Air Force, but had to get his parents to agree, since he was only 17. His Father was ok with his choice, but he had to convince his Mother and finally George got the needed signature. After Basic Training at Lackland AFB in Texas, he went to Denver CO where he went to Technical School for Logistics and Supply. He loved Denver and while there met and married his first wife. Next he went to Japan on an unaccompanied two year tour supplying for the Korean War. George really enjoyed it here, especially the food, culture and gardens. His next tour was to South Dakota, where the extremes between huge snow piles in the winter and 110 degree temperatures in the summer made it a difficult place to work. It was off to Sturgate Airfield in England next for a three year tour, where he could take his family with him. George then went stateside to Columbus Ohio and Denver CO again. This time George changed his MOS. He took one year of electronics, so that he could then take Weapons Control classes. He used these skills in his next tour of duty at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. George also learned to enjoy hunting, fishing and bowling! It was while he was back in Okinawa that his wife became sick and he came back to the states to Dennsion TX. He was apprehensive, but found it was a good assignment. It was from there that George retired in 1969.

George moved to Mount Vernon, NY because his family was located there. He had another 20 year career doing life insurance and working with AT&T. George also went to Culinary School and owned a restaurant at one time. He came to AFRH-W in December 2013. He enjoys the bowling, the food and the ability to keep busy.
